Lengard has been entrusted by St Mary Magdalene Church and Paddington Development Trust to carry out sensitive conservation works to the Grade 1 church building and to construct a community and heritage hub, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
St Mary Magdalene Church, built by G.E. Street in the 1860s-70s, is a Grade 1 Listed building on the English Heritage ‘at risk’ register. It is recognised as an outstanding and important example of neo-Gothic architecture and decoration. Support has been given through the Heritage Lottery Fund for this joint initiative by the Paddington Development Trust (PDT) and St Mary Magdalene Church.
The new building will deliver a heritage and community wing which will provide access and visitor facilities, a learning space, and a café opening onto the Grand Union canal; a cultural venue with a rich and varied programme of events; and an affordable flexible space for use by local groups and residents.
Lengard’s experience and reputation as an established Heritage Contractor was key to securing this important and exciting project.
