Darell Primary and Nursery School
Lengard have successfully completed the refurbishment and new extension works at Darell Primary and Nursery School for the London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames.
The works were carried out in two phases. The first phase took place during the summer holidays over a 5.5 week period with works to classrooms over 3 floors. This second phase covered 6 areas on the ground and second floors whilst the school was operational.
Works included the demolition of the existing kitchen and metal external escape stair and associated works. On the ground floor, we created two new office areas, new pupil toilets and an adult toilet, enlarged kitchen areas and server with direct access to the hall. New external doors were installed to the three ground floor classrooms facing the northern playground.
The first mezzanine floor had the removal of two toilet cubicles and the upgrading the remaining one toilet in the inclusion room.
The second floor saw the construction of a new extension, to provide three new teaching areas including a studio, library and food technology room as well as a break out area. There was reorganisation of the existing classrooms to accommodate the proposed additional pupil numbers. Also, new teaching areas were made accessible off the existing glazed corridor link and are served by the existing lift.
