Client: The Girls Day School Trust
Programme: 7 weeks
Contract: JCT 2011 Intermediate WCD
Description: Refurbishment and Alterations
Northwood College for Girls was purpose built 1891-93 as a private girls’ school and some of the buildings on the site are now locally listed.
We worked on buildings including the Dining Room, Library and Wray Lodge, involving roofing, external repairs, window and door renewals, structural alterations and fit-out of the servery, new fire doors and shutter, re-decorations and external works.
When preparing the Dining Room area for structural works we discovered major problems with the existing steelwork. Re-programming of the project enabled us to re-design and construct these works and still complete on time.
The majority of the works were during the summer holiday period but Summer Camp activities were operating site wide and other contractors were on site requiring close co-operation.
“I wanted to take the opportunity to express my gratitude to you [Site Manager] and your Site Team for your work so far at Northwood College. Your technical knowledge and open communication regarding time frames ensured that my team were able to plan their own workload and that we were able to manage the expectations of staff and pupils.
I have also been impressed by your approach to safeguarding and Health and Safety, especially once the girls and staff returned to site for the start of term. You have managed the contractors and the site carefully in this regard and the operatives you have had on site have behaved professionally at all times.
It has been a pleasure to work with you.”
