Description: Conversion and Refurbishment
Lengard carried out the conversion of a retail unit into 33 affordable housing units with a new landscaped courtyard, external refurbishment, creation of an animal welfare unit (PDSA) and the Barracuda night club.
The building is circa 1880 and had been extended and modernised many times, which led to difficult structural challenges to adapt the building into its proposed use. Many supporting walls and floors were removed, heavy steels installed to support the new structures and a 22ft box frame at ground floor level to support the 3 upper floors.
A new terrace of 300 m² was formed at 1st floor level, which was made possible by removing the roof and second floor structures and creating new external walls within the interior.
