Graduates and Apprentices
"Our apprentices gain skills and business experience which enables them to become dedicated professionals who add value to Lengard"
Lengard has an active policy of employing trainee surveyors and site managers, and takes pride in being able to invest in the future of the industry. Apprentices are important to Lengard and are offered a combination of on-site training and assessment with classroom based learning. Our apprentices gain skills and business experience which enables them to become dedicated professionals who add value to Lengard.
Opportunities exist for undergraduates and graduates. We sponsor students through their degrees and offer valuable work experience throughout the course of their degree; typically the trainee will undertake a BSc in Quantity Surveying or Building on a day release basis. Throughout his/her course, the trainee will be given experience in all aspects of the business and will be appointed to a training mentor who, as an active part of the Lengard management team, will offer guidance, advice and hands on training.
As well as following the graduate route, opportunities also exist for trainee site managers, usually with a trade background. Through the mentoring process combined with day release CIOB site management courses they can build their careers with Lengard.
Our commitment to employee development through courses and site experience allows Apprentices and Graduates alike to become qualified and valued members of Lengard’s team at the earliest opportunity.
Testimonials
"Neil is now a fully qualified member of one of our major works teams. Neil joined Lengard for two weeks work experience in his gap year after A-Levels and he was soon applying to do his BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying. Lengard sponsored Neil’s RICS-accredited degree - a sandwich course with a year’s practical experience with Lengard, including running a couple of small jobs on his own – and accommodation. Neil qualified in 2006 and is currently doing his RICS assessment of professional competence (APC), also sponsored by Lengard."
"Kenny is one of our current trainee surveyors. Kenny has completed a foundation degree in engineering but wasn’t sure he had made the right choice. Following his two week work experience at Lengard, he too has enrolled on a BSc (Hons) degree course in Quantity Surveying and is being sponsored in the same way as Neil was."
"Rob realised, six months before gaining his BSc (Hons) in Geography, that he would like a career in construction. Lengard’s Chairman, Geoffrey, was able to offer him a training place. Rob is now on a Lengard-sponsored day-release course at Anglia Ruskin University leading to an MSc in Quantity Surveying."
"Jodie joined Lengard in 2006 as part of our reception team; she has proved an effective and proactive member of the team and this has been rewarded with a promotion to join Lengard’s marketing department. To help her with her new responsibilities, Jodie will be studying for an NVQ II in business administration before going on to do a foundation course in marketing followed by a diploma course. Lengard will be sponsoring all her studies."
"Carlo joined Lengard in 2006 as an administrator in our Estimating Department. He enjoys the work and has decided to train as an Estimator
He is currently studying for a 1st Certificate in Construction, a one-year day-release course, sponsored by Lengard"
"Gemma joined Lengard late in 2008 as Assistant to the Quantity Surveyor on our Phoenix Framework contract. She was previously an Assistant Site Manager with another main contractor but joined Lengard to take advantage of the opportunities on offer and to qualify as a Quantity Surveyor. She starts her HNC course this year, sponsored by Lengard, before studying on a day-release course."
"Ian and Jamie are trainee Site Managers with Lengard; each should qualify in 2010. Our trainee site managers study for their CIOB qualification, work alongside a site manager, learn on-the-job, as well as gaining an understanding about customer care from our Resident Liaison Officers."
"Alan joined Lengard in 1997 as a site manager; he progressed to area manager and then project manager on a three-phase £17m project. It was during this contract that Alan, now in his forties, decided to fulfil a long-held ambition to become a Quantity Surveyor. With Lengard’s help, he studied part-time for his Foundation Degree in Construction Management, taking the Quantity Surveying option, and passed with distinction."
