Project Description
Introduction:
Towers Primary School is located in Hornchurch, Essex. The building was originally built in 1969 and was in much need of modernisation. It had provided open plan learning for children aged between 7-11 years. The school now provides an extended range of services to a wider age range and didn’t meet current requirements for separate learning areas.
The Challenge:
Lengard were appointed to carry out the multi-faceted modernisations in 35 weeks which involved a new entrance reception, sick bay, business manager’s office, music room and stores. Works also included the remodelling of the existing east & west wings, disabled facilities including two platform lifts and associated mechanical & electrical installations. Lengard supervised specialist furniture and I.T. contractors employed directly by the School.
How Lengard Overcame:
It was essential to the success of this project that the site management team were able to move well ahead of programme early, condensing the programme to allow the bulk of the refurbishment to be undertaken during the six week summer school holiday period. Close and effective co-ordination between the project management team, the design team and the school’s Head Teacher Marilyn Whiskerd was central to the success. Lengard accelerated the programme and hit key milestones to ensure the school’s nominated contractors we on time and the disruption the school learning environment was kept to the absolute minimum.
Lengard organised art competitions and participated in morning assembly to provide the children with regular updates.
