Lengard’s campaign for warmer homes

Project Description

Lengard are working closely with LB Camden & University College London in developing a new low carbon solution to a traditional problem, that of the London Borough of Camden´s Victorian terraced properties which are mostly situated in conservation areas. Lengard were awarded the contract to strip out and refurbish N° 17 St Augustines Road to reduce heat loss and carbon emissions by 90 per cent whilst maintaining the Victorian aesthetic.

The reduction in emissions and heat loss will result from the installation of sustainable and efficient materials and appliances that involved double insulating the roof and interior walls with Kingspan insulation, the installation of solar thermal panels fitted to the roof to provide up to 70% of the required heating and hot water as well as photovoltaic cells that will not only produce sufficient electricity to ensure appliances are powered off-grid but also generate a surplus that can be sold to the National Grid.

Jaga high efficiency radiators have been fitted together with new double glazed timber Optitherm glazed sash windows designed to reflect heat back into the room.

Professor Robert Lowe of University College London will be monitoring the performance of the building, to measure energy consumption, heat loss and humidity values through probes installed within wall, floor and roof voids, together with smart meters and the use of thermographic imagery.
