Lengard have undertaken the renovation & conversion of an existing retail unit into 33 affordable housing units with a new landscaped courtyard, including external refurbishment, alteration and adaption of existing retail unit (PDSA) and the forming of an acoustic shell for a night club fit out.

The building comprises of 2 x three bedroom flats, 17 x two bedroom flats and 13 x one bedroom flats.

The existing building is circa 1880 and is located in the High Street, Maidstone. The property has been extended and modernised over many years, which in turn has lead to some difficult structural challenges to adapt the building into its proposed use. Many supporting walls and floors within the building required heavy demolition to achieve the correct layouts for the units which in turn required structural designed propping details and heavy steels to support the new/existing structures. A 22ft box frame was also inserted at the ground floor to support the 3 upper floors.

A new landscaped terrace of approximately 300 m² has been formed at 1st Floor level, this was made possible by the removal of the existing roof and second floor structures and the formation of new external walls within the interior of the site.

The works have also been designed and constructed to achieve an Eco Homes very good standard.
