Project Description

Introduction:Coombes Croft Library is situated opposite Tottenham Hotspur FC, on High Road Tottenham. The Library provides a valuable resource and service to the community with regular activities for adults and children alike. Local Councillors hold surgeries there for residents living in the Northumberland Park & White Hart Lane area assemblies.

The Challenge:

Lengard were appointed to carry out total remodelling of the library and to construct new extensions to the front and rear of the building, nearly doubling the footprint of the building. Access to site was extremely tight with dwellings surrounding the library. The only access was direct from the busy main road, bridging a culvert, which proved quite a challenge.

How Lengard Overcame:

Lengard appointed a specialist contractor that had demonstrated the required experience of working in confined spaces with highly manoeuvrable mini plant. Maintaining access was a priority throughout with just in time deliveries and intense communication with Library staff and their neighbours. A key feature was strengthening of the underground culvert roof, designed to withstand the load of the new extension spanning it. A glass floor panel with lighting was installed to highlight the culvert and this became the key design feature of the building.
