Project Description
Harlow Museum tells the story of Harlow from pre-historic times to its development as a New Town in the 1950s.
Harlow was renowned for its ‘metropolitan ware’ pottery in the C18th, bicycle manufacture up to the mid-C20th and, until recent times, was the home of Gilbey’s gin.
The museum is housed within the Grade II listed C19th stable block of Mark Hall Manor; Lengard’s initial brief was to refurbish the existing buildings to create an improved exhibition space as well as a new extension to the stores to house the reserve collection.
Phase II involved the formation of a new entrance with disabled access, a new car park to cater for increased visitor numbers and new toilet facilities.
The new-look museum was officially re-opened by the Mayor and has proved a popular local attraction ever since.
