Client: The Chinese Church in London
Programme: 17 weeks
Description: Heritage Refurbishment of Grade II* Public Building
The Soho Outreach Centre in Shaftsbury Ave has been totally transformed from the original 1885-built Baptist chapel into a dedicated church and community centre to serve the spiritual and secular needs of the Chinese community in Soho.
Externally, works included a new slate roof, the construction of a new entrance, and the brickwork was cleaned and repaired.
Internally, the basement layout was changed to provide a coffee room, hall and kitchen; a new mezzanine floor was created; a stunning glass-fronted crèche was constructed on the existing chapel balcony; the old pulpits were replaced with a low stage; the rear lobby reconfigured and the chapel walls were restored to their original lustre.
Additionally, the WCs were refurbished, new heating, lighting & ventilation systems installed, a platform lift installed, and new waterproof tanking, floor finishes, tiling and decorations.
